What is a brand logo?

The word "logo" comes from the Greek "logos" (word) and "typos" (imprint). Thus, the logo is an original font style of full or abbreviated names of the firm or group of commodities.

In theory, it's necessary to distinguish the logo from the brand name. So, the brand name is a set of specially designed unique graphic images and logos (company name in original spelling). I.e brand name is different from the logo by the adding of graphic images.

In practice, most people are somewhat confused with these concepts and, or, equals logo and brand name to each other, or consider brand name the most graphic (no fonts lettering).

In order not to confuse the visitors of our website, we will also be nominally equated the concept of the logo and brand name to each other, because brand name as well as logo are used for the same, namely to create a memorable and recognizable impression on customers and potential customers of the company or product.

A professionally made logo retains the look, makes a person interested in it. A good logo works in the simplest forms. In practice, it's possible to observe logos with animation, gradients, effects volume. But, if the logo cannot be converted into a simple monochrome version for use in facsimile checks, black-and-white images, it's virtually useless.

How can you define a successful brand name or logo? A successful logo should meet the needs of the company and retain the target market, it has to be recognizable and memorable, and can be used in a limited colour palette.

Requirements that must be met for a professionally designed logo (brand name) is similar to the requirements for trademark:

  • The novelty of the idea (originality, lack of imitation);
  • Aesthetics;
  • Brevity;
  • Adaptivity (possibility of use of the mark for a long time, with the introduction of minor changes);
  • Adaptability (the sign should equally look advantageous in any medium);
  • Associativity (ties, associations between the sign and the peculiarity of marked goods); explicitly.
